Mt Kenya trip – Naromoru- Chogoria route 5days /4 nights

DAY 1 Nairobi –Naromoru – Met station
Drive from Nairobi  to Naromoru  after sorting out  drive  to Naromoru park entrance, after signing inn start your 3 hours hike , through the rain forest, part of the trail follows a good track through dense forests alive with bird song and the sounds of noisy Columbus monkeys. Elephants also inhabit these parts, but they are rare these days and we will be lucky to se one. This two to three hours hike is essential for acclimatization and is also very interesting as you hike through the mountain vegetation belts , you will reach the  Met Station(3048m) late in the  afternoon for dinner and overnight in bunk house ,


DAY 2 Met station – Mackinders camp
After early break fast  around(730am -800am ) you will start your 6-7 hours hike you  will emerge on the edge of the forest where it joins the moor land zone, giant heather and alpine zones, the hike offers gentle climb through fascinating vegetation with nice perspective of the back ground.. Picnic lunch will be provided on the way  then you will follow the trails  edge of the you reach the crescent of Teleki valley proceeding to the spectacular Teleki valley dotted with Lobelias, you will  cross northern Naromoru  river up to Mackinders camp(4200m) late in the  afternoon ,have dinner and overnight in bunk house. Walking time is 6-7 hours depending on individual fitness

Chogoria- Sirimon route 5days/4nights

Day1. Camp to Chogoria bandas (altitude: 3000m)
After breakfast drive from hotel in Nairobi to Chogoria for approximate 4 hours, meet guides and porters in Chogoria at around midday. Whilst you will have lunch, the crew loads up the Land Rover. We have a 22 km drive up a rough and muddy track through the bamboo zone to our overnight destination on the boundary of the park. Is a good idea to walk the last 5 kms to acclimatize? We overnight at the Chogoria bandas (a small bunkhouse) set near the edge of the forest line.


Day2. Chogoria bandas to Lake Ellis (altitude: 3400m)
After breakfast, we will follow the track as it leads up through glades of montaine forest, with plenty of wildlife around, to our camp on the shores of Lake Ellis. We will arrive at our camp after about three hours walk in time for lunch. After a short rest period in the late afternoon we will hike to the top of nearby Mugi hill (250m) before returning to camp.

Sirimon /Chogoria route 5 days/ 4 nights

Day 1   Sirimon gate Old Moses Camp
Hiking Time: 3 hrs
Total Distance: 10km
Starting Altitude: 2610m
Final Altitude: 3300m
Habitat: Montane forest

you will drive from Meru national park to the Sirimon gate of Mt. Kenya National park at 2600m. It is not uncommon to see baboons running through the trees and across the grass fields in front of the gate. Elephants are sometimes spotted here as well. We start our trek with a 3 to 4 hour hike up through the forest to Old Moses camp at 3300m.

Mount Kenya is Africa’s second highest mountain at 5,199m (17,058 feet) and the highest of all Kenya Mountains. Mount Kenya is roughly circular, about 60km across at the 200mm contour, where the steep font hills rise out of the gentler slopes of the centered highlands. At the centre of the massif, the main peaks rise sharply from around 4,500m to the main summit of Batian 5,199m, Nelion 5,188m and point Lenana 4,985m. Other major summits on the mountain include Point Piggott 4,957m, Point Dutton 4,885 and Point John 4,883m. Of the three main peaks (Batian, Lenana and Nelion), only point Lenana can be reached by trekkers and the other two being only for technical climbers.

Sirimon - Naromoru route 5days/4 nights

Day 1 Sirimon to ( Old Moses)  Camp ( 3 300 metres)
 on the Sirimon  route , you register to Mount Kenya National Park Gate. From here you hike 9Km up to the Old Moses Camp (3300m)  
 This two to three hours hike is essential for acclimatization and is also very interesting as you hike through four of the mountain vegetation belts - the tropical rain forest, bamboo jungle,rosewood and heather zones.
The initial part of the trail follows a good track through dense forests alive with birdsong and the sounds of noisy Columbus monkeys. Elephants also inhabit these parts, but they are rare these days and we will be lucky to see one. We emerge on the edge of the forest where it joins the moorland zone, and reach our campsite known as Old Moses Camp. For overnight in bunk house or tents Altitude gained 690 metres, walking distance 9 kms. Time 4 hours
