Sirimon - Naromoru route

Day 1Sirimon to (Old Moses) Camp (3 300 metres)
on the Sirimon  route , you register to Mount Kenya National Park Gate. From here you hike 9Km up to the Old Moses Camp (3300m)  
This two to three hours hike is essential for acclimatization and is also very interesting as you hike through four of the mountain vegetation belts - the tropical rain forest, bamboo jungle, rosewood and heather zones.
The initial part of the trail follows a good track through dense forests alive with birdsong and the sounds of noisy Columbus monkeys. Elephants also inhabit these parts, but they are rare these days and we will be lucky to see one. We emerge on the edge of the forest where it joins the moorland zone, and reach our campsite known as Old Moses Camp. For overnight in bunk house or tents Altitude gained 690 metres, walking distance 9 kms. Time 4 hours

Chogoria- Naromoru route 6 days/5 nights

Day 1 Nairobi – Chogoria - Mt Kenya Bandas (2950mts)
Depart from Nairobi by 08.00hrs headed for Chogoria. The drive will take you approximately 4 hrs and pass through agricultural country. You will arrive in time for lunch (picnic). Chogoria is a small urban settlement on the slopes of Mount Kenya and it is the start of the Chogoria route. It is here you will meet with the mountain crew (Guide, Porters and Cook).  After lunch there will be a short briefing and checking the Luggage. The road from Chogoria village to the Bandas is rugged and you will change vehicle to the accustomed 4X4 land rovers that are more suited for the drive up. Chogoria Bandas is 30 km from the village but the vehicle will take for only 20km and walk up the other 5km. This walk helps with the much needed acclimatization. This will a 2 hours walk through forest and bamboo zone. You will get to the Bandas by 17.00hrs.
Drive distance: Nairobi to Chogoria is 180 Km.
Drive time: Drive time from Nairobi to Chogoria is 3 hours.  
Walking time: 2hrs.
Altitude change. 2750mts to 3000mts. (Ascend 250 mts).
VEGETATION: Forest and Bamboo zone.       
CLIMATE: A typical day is clear and cool in the morning with low humidity. The mountain is in direct sunlight which causes the temperatures to rise quickly with the warmest temperatures occurring between 9am and 12am. The temperatures on Mount Kenya fluctuate greatly. This fluctuation is largest on the lower slopes of the moorland zone. At an altitude of 3,000 metres (9,800 ft) there is a 11.5°C mean range in daily temperature, this goes down to 7.5°C at 4,200 metres (13,800 ft) and 4°C at 4,800 metres (15,700 ft).The diurnal temperature fluctuation reduces with altitude.
ACCOMMODATION:  Stay at Chogoria Bandas – 3000Mts. (Comfortable Log cabins with beds)  
MEALS: Lunch will be picnic. Dinner and overnight will be Chogoria bandas.

Mt Kenya trip – Naromoru- Chogoria route 6days /5 nights

DAY 1 Nairobi –Naromoru – Met station
Drive from Nairobi  to Naromoru  after sorting out  drive  to Naromoru park entrance, after signing inn start your 3 hours hike , through the rain forest, part of the trail follows a good track through dense forests alive with bird song and the sounds of noisy Columbus monkeys. Elephants also inhabit these parts, but they are rare these days and we will be lucky to se one. This two to three hours hike is essential for acclimatization and is also very interesting as you hike through the mountain vegetation belts , you will reach the  Met Station(3048m) late in the  afternoon for dinner and overnight in bunk house ,


DAY 2 Met station – Mackinders camp
After early break fast  around(730am -800am ) you will start your 6-7 hours hike you  will emerge on the edge of the forest where it joins the moor land zone, giant heather and alpine zones, the hike offers gentle climb through fascinating vegetation with nice perspective of the back ground.. Picnic lunch will be provided on the way  then you will follow the trails  edge of the you reach the crescent of Teleki valley proceeding to the spectacular Teleki valley dotted with Lobelias, you will  cross northern Naromoru  river up to Mackinders camp(4200m) late in the  afternoon ,have dinner and overnight
in bunk house. Walking time is 6-7 hours depending on individual fitness

Sirimon /Chogoria route 6 days/ 5 nights

Starting Altitude: 2610m
Final Altitude: 3300m
Habitat: Montane forest

You will drive from Meru national park to the Sirimon gate of Mt. Kenya National park at 2600m. It is not uncommon to see baboons running through the trees and across the grass fields in front of the gate. Elephants are sometimes spotted here as well. We start our trek with a 3 to 4 hour hike up through the forest to Old Moses camp at 3300m.

Mount Kenya is Africa’s second highest mountain at 5,199m (17,058 feet) and the highest of all Kenya Mountains. Mount Kenya is roughly circular, about 60km across at the 200mm contour, where the steep font hills rise out of the gentler slopes of the centered highlands. At the centre of the massif, the main peaks rise sharply from around 4,500m to the main summit of Batian 5,199m, Nelion 5,188m and point Lenana 4,985m. Other major summits on the mountain include Point Piggott 4,957m, Point Dutton 4,885 and Point John 4,883m. Of the three main peaks (Batian, Lenana and Nelion), only point Lenana can be reached by trekkers and the other two being only for technical climbers.
