DAY 1: Nairobi – Naromoru – Met station
Drive from Nairobi to Naromoru after sorting out the drive to Naromoru park entrance, after signing in start your 3 hours hike, through the rain forest, part of the trail follows a good track through dense forests alive with bird song and the sounds of noisy Columbus monkeys.
Elephants also inhabit these parts, but they are rare these days and we will be lucky to see one. This two to three hours hike is essential for acclimatization and is also very interesting as you hike through the mountain vegetation belts, you will reach the Met Station(3048m) late in the afternoon for dinner and overnight in the bunk house,
DAY 2: Met Station – Mackinders Camp
After an early breakfast around(730am -800am ), you will start your 6-7 hours hike you will emerge on the edge of the forest where it joins the moorland zone, giant heather, and alpine zones, the hike offers gentle climb through fascinating vegetation with the nice perspective of the background.
Picnic lunch will be provided on the way then you will follow the trail’s edge you reach the crescent of Teleki Valley proceeding to the spectacular Teleki Valley dotted with Lobelias, you will cross northern Naromoru river up to Mackinders camp(4200m) late in the afternoon, have dinner and overnight in the bunk house. Walking time is 6-7 hours depending on individual fitness
Day 3: Mackinders Camp – Shiptons Camp
On this day we leave the valley and truly enter the alpine zone. It becomes rockier and less vegetated as we enter the higher reaches. We cross high on the western flank of the massif and then drop back down through high alpine lakes, eventually arriving back at a similar altitude that we began the day.
This day has some of the most breathtaking views of the mountain as we come around the vast northwestern buttresses. We overnighted in Shiptons Camp (4200m / 13,800ft).
Day 4 Shipton’s Camp/ Lenana Peak / Mintos
You will have Pre dawn (3.00 am) ascend to point Lenana (4985meters) arriving there in time( 630AM)to see the African sunrise., enjoy the views, and take photographs From Pt. Lenana, you have good views of Pt. Nelson (5188m), Pt. Batian (5199m) and other surrounding peaks, and on a clear day the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro can be seen protruding from the sky over 340km to the south
Indian Ocean from the east and Mt. Elgon from the west. Afterward, we descend to Hall Starn (4300m) for breakfast; there will be some more fantastic scenery. Overnight will be in tents.
Day 5: Mintos /Meru Mt Kenya Bandas /Chogoria /Nairobi)
After breakfast we start a 15km hike, taking 6 hours hiking gently down a broad ridge enjoying magnificent views back up the valley to the snowy peaks, and down to waterfall tarns and lava flows in the Gorges Valley itself. Lake Michelson, Lake Ellis, the giant billiard table, and the Mugi hills will be visible at a distance.
A picnic lunch will be provided on the way, spending the night at Chogoria Banda’s which provides hot showers.
Day 6: Meru Mt Kenya Bandas /Chogoria /Nairobi)
After breakfast we walk for approximately 10km in the rainforest, enjoying the beautiful views. We then connect with your mountain 4×4 vehicles to drive you out of the park and down to Chogoria Town. Here you will transfer into another vehicle before continuing back to Nairobi or another planned destination
